The Museum is situated in Horse Guards, the heart of ceremonial London, with access off Horse Guards Parade. It is within very easy walking distance of Trafalgar Square, Parliament Square and Downing Street, St James’s Park and Buckingham Palace and the Embankment piers. Public transport links are also excellent.

Opening times

Open daily
10am – 6pm April to October
10am – 5pm November to March
(except Marathon Day, Easter Friday, and Christmas Eve-Boxing Day inclusive when we are closed all day).

Last admission 45 minutes before closing.

Seasonal closures 2018

As per the routine of the annual Ceremonial Season, the museum closes to allow security sweeps and highly secure rehearsals on Horse Guards Parade throughout May and June. Being on the highest level of security in 2018 our closures are more far reaching than in years passed and are as follows:

May 2018:
Tuesday 8 – closed all day
Wednesday 9 – closed all day
Thursday 10 – closed all day
Friday 11 – UPDATE 04/05: Museum open all day

Monday 14 – open 12-18:00hrs
Wednesday 16 – open 12-18:00hrs
Friday 18 – open 12-18:00hrs

Monday 21 – UPDATE 27/04: Museum now open all day
Wednesday 23 – UPDATE 27/04: Museum now open all day
Saturday 26 – open 13-18:00hrs

Tuesday 29 – open 10-14:00hrs
Wednesday 30 – open 10-16:00hrs
Thursday 31 – open 10-16:00hrs

June 2018:
Saturday 2 – open 13-18:00hrs

Monday 4 – closed all day
Tuesday 5 – open 10-14:00hrs
Wednesday 6 – open 10-16:00hrs
Thursday 7 – open 10-16:00hrs
Saturday 9 – open 13-18:00hrs

Outside of these above changes the museum will be open 10-18:00hrs as per usual. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope you can join us on another date in this summer period.

Military guest prices:
Serving Household Cavalry  personnel and accompanying families: free of charge
Veteran Household Cavalry personnel: free of charge
Serving Military personnel: 50% discount  to £4.00

Daily Ceremony

The Changing of the Queen’s Life Guard takes place daily on Horse Guards Parade at 11am (10am Sundays). The Daily Inspection takes place at 4pm (Front Yard Whitehall).

No animals, except guide dogs are allowed in the Museum.
