The Museum is situated in Horse Guards, the heart of ceremonial London, with access off Horse Guards Parade. It is within very easy walking distance of Trafalgar Square, Parliament Square and Downing Street, St James’s Park and Buckingham Palace and the Embankment piers. Public transport links are also excellent.

Opening times

Open daily
10am – 6pm April to October
10am – 5pm November to March
(except 25th March / 24th April / 24th -26th December).

Last admission 45 minutes before closing.

Seasonal closures

As per the routine of the annual Ceremonial Season, the museum closes to allow security sweeps and highly secure rehearsals on Horse Guards Parade throughout May and June. Being on the highest level of security in 2017 our closures are more far reaching than in years passed and are as follows:


Friday 26 May – Museum open 12-18:00hrs

Wednesday 31 May – Museum open 12-18:00hrs

Thursday 1 June – Museum open 12-18:00hrs

Saturday 3 June – Museum open 13-18:00hrs

Tuesday 6 June – Museum open 13-18:00hrs

Saturday 10 June – Museum open 13-18:00hrs

Monday 12 June – Museum closed

Tuesday 13 June – Museum open 10-14:00hrs

Wednesday 14 June – Museum open 10-16:00hrs

Thursday 15 June – Museum open 10-16:00hrs

Saturday 17 June – Museum open 13-18:00hrs

Outside of these above changes the museum will be open 10-18:00hrs as per usual. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope you can join us on another date in this summer period.

Daily Ceremony

The Changing of the Queen’s Life Guard takes place daily on Horse Guards Parade at 11am (10am Sundays). The Daily Inspection takes place at 4pm (Front Yard Whitehall).

No animals, except guide dogs are allowed in the Museum.
